19th Century French Chest of Drawers / Commode in Elm Louis Philippe

This burr elm commode features a stunning fossilised free standing marble top. The black, white and grey marble is encrusted with what appear to be shells embedded throughout the marble. The outer edge of the marble has a double-reeded moulding to three sides.

The front of the commode is veneered in a beautiful warm burr elm with wooden turned key escutcheons. The sides are in book-matched elm with a small moulding at three-quarters height.

Below the top lie five drawers constructed in oak with dovetail joints and lined with paper. Four drawers have working locks operated by a brass key. The fifth and lowest drawer is concealed within the plinth. Surrounding the drawers is a raised moulding.

The commode has been through our workshop, where it has been checked, cleaned and re-waxed in a traditional finish. Overall it is in superb condition.
